Windows users have so much choice when it comes to backup software, that it is sometimes hard to keep an overview of the best solution for a particular computer system. When you look at top lists of backup software, you usually find EaseUS Todo Backup Free somewhere on the list. The company behind the product has just released EaseUS Todo Backup 5.0 Free, the latest iteration of the application.
The free for personal use edition of the backup program ships with most, but not all, features of the paid versions of the program. What you get is the program?s one-click system backup and recovery module, options to backup files, disks and partitions, and a set of tools that you usually find only in commercial backup software.
The major features that are not included in the free version are password protecting backups, support for dynamic volumes,? the program?s system snapshot feature, and several of the new features that include backing up Outlook and Windows 7 libraries, restoring a backup to systems with different hardware, and event based backups. The developers have added several new features to the free version of EaseUS Todo Backup 5.0:
- Support for hard disks with a capacity of more than 2 Terabyte
- A new interface for the backup and recovery process
- The option to backup file types to specific custom folders
The remaining new features are only available to the commercial Home and Workstation version of the backup software:
- Differential backups
- Backup and restoration of Outlook emails
- Backup and restoration of Windows 7 libraries
All backup and restoration option that the free version provides you with are listed on the home tab. Here you can selected to backup data, which can be a file, disk or partition, or the operating system. You can alternatively clone a hard drive or a partition, and use built-in tools to verify the integrity of a recently created image, create a bootable disk for disaster recovery purposes, wipe data, or mount images to access files without restoring the full backup.
Support for disk with capacities of more than 2 Terabyte is without doubt the most important feature of the free version of the program. Existing free users can click on the down arrow in the application interface and select check for update to update the program manually.
